When you’re in charge of running every aspect of your book-based business, it can be hard to stay focused on each aspect in its turn. When you’re wearing every hat in your small business, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose motivation. These three strategies can help kickstart your motivation, build your momentum, and get your book-based business back into gear. Check ‘em out!

  1. Remind Yourself of Past Successes
Everyone gets into a slump or lacks motivation from time to time. A great way to motivate yourself to keep persevering is to look back at past successes. That can come in the form of financial records, glowing feedback, or satisfied client testimonials.
  1. Set A Big Scary Goal
Break that goal down into manageable chunks, then set small rewards for each accomplishment. By breaking a big goal down into smaller goals, you only need enough motivation to meet each small portion, and before you know it, you’ll have met your bigger goal!
  2. Read Success Stories
Sometimes, I Google small business and entrepreneur success stories for motivation. My favorite Google search, though, is for small business turnaround success stories. When I read about how other small business owners and book-based businesses have made a comeback, I feel on fire!
  3. Get With Likeminded People
Join a small business mastermind, go to a Meetup, or brainstorm with trusted family and friends. Sometimes, they can give you insight and ideas you might be overlooking in your frustration. It is possible to be too close to your book-based business. These folks can give you some much-needed perspective and objectivity.
  4. Take A Break
If you’re truly frustrated, go do something else. Take a walk, dance around the house (or your office), meet friends for lunch, take in a movie – anything that gets you away from your work for a while. When you come back to it, you’ll feel refreshed and have a new perspective.

You are not alone. A book-based business can be particularly challenging at times. We all get frustrated and occasionally lack motivation. Try one of the strategies above to get your mojo back, spark creativity, and give your writing business the fresh outlook you need.
